Sharing your favourite song can be life changing

If you can sing along to these lyrics right off the top of your head, you’re my kind of person.

“I wanna thank you for giving me time to breathe
Like a rock, you waited so patiently
While I got it together, oh
While I figured it out (yeah-yeah)
I only looked but I never touched
'Cause in my heart was a picture of us
Holdin' hands, makin' plans
And it's lucky for me you understand

What a girl wants, what a girl needs
Whatever makes me happy sets you free”

Yes, this song will having me singing within 2 seconds of hearing it.
Yes, I’m a millennial through and through.
Yes, you can judge me for loving 90’s and '00’s pop, but I couldn’t care less. It makes me very happy.

Music is subjective. That’s a fact. Some lyrics, melodies and vocal styles appeal to one person, and absolutely repulse another, and that is totally fine. The music that does resonate with you has an incredible ability to influence how you’re feeling at any one time though.

When you love a song that puts a huge smile on your face as soon as you hear it, that is a positive emotional anchor. Through previous listening experiences you have unconsciously anchored your mind to release positive emotions as soon as you hear the song. Pretty cool right?

Consider which songs put a smile on your face the quickest? Now, share that list with me! I love getting song suggestions.

Actually, that is your challenge for this week’s Hump Day Hype Up.

HDHU TASK: Share one of your favourite songs with someone you’re close to.

Have a conversation about why you love it so much. Ask them their thoughts on the song. Maybe have a dance together. If they’re not into the song, ask some questions about what kind of music they like? What song puts a smile on their face right away?

As you know, the purpose of Hump Day Hype Up is to energise yourself a put a pep in your step to carry on into the rest of the working week. There really aren’t many things in the world that add a pep to your step quicker than your favourite songs. Enjoy this week’s tasks, and enjoy the connection that comes from sharing music with those you love too.

Why is music the ultimate mood booster?

There’s something magical about music, isn’t there? It’s like an instant mood lifter. Whether you’re feeling on top of the world or in a bit of a funk, the right song can change your mindset in a matter of minutes. Research has shown that music affects our brains in incredible ways. It can reduce stress, improve mood, and even boost cognitive performance. When you listen to a song you love, your brain releases dopamine—the same chemical that’s released when you experience something pleasurable like eating your favorite food or achieving a goal. So, when you share that special song with someone else, you’re not just sharing music—you’re sharing a little dose of happiness.

Why is it valuable to share music?

Sharing music isn’t just about the tunes; it’s about connection. Think about the last time you bonded with someone over a shared love of a band or song. There’s something deeply personal about music preferences, and when you share a song that resonates with you, you’re sharing a piece of yourself. This simple act of sharing can strengthen relationships, spark new conversations, and create lasting memories. Plus, discovering new music through friends can be a great way to expand your own playlist and see the world from someone else’s perspective.

In our busy lives, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and forget to connect with those around us. Taking a moment to send a song to a friend or family member is a small yet meaningful way to say, “Hey, I’m thinking of you.” It’s like sending a musical hug, a reminder that even in the midst of the mid-week grind, you’re not alone.

So, here’s your challenge for this Hump Day: pick a song that lifts you up, makes you dance, or simply brings a smile to your face. Then, share it with someone you care about. Tell them why it’s your favorite, and ask them to share one of theirs in return. You might be surprised at how this simple exchange can brighten your day—and theirs.

Remember, music is a universal language that transcends words. It’s a way to connect, to express, and to feel. So, let’s keep the good vibes flowing this Hump Day by sharing the songs that move us. And who knows? You might just make someone’s day a little brighter with the gift of music.

As always, sending love.
Jade xx
