The art of romanticising daily activities

Last week I had the pleasure of enjoying a gorgeous facial.

If you haven’t had a facial before, oh my goodness, I recommend it!! It’s wild how much someone rubbing different goo on your face can lull you into an incredible sense of relaxation. I nearly always feel like I’ve fallen asleep (I probably have) and also wondered if I dribbled while I was sleeping (I probably did).

This isn’t a promotion for facials, this is instead a promotion for how easy it easy to treat ourselves to pleasurable things like this at home.

Yes, of course - paying someone for a luxury service is usually a more enjoyable experience - but that doesn’t mean we can’t find pleasure and enjoyment from romanticising our daily activities at home.

As part of my daily habits checklist, I have a morning skin care routine and an evening skin care routine. This is part of my daily routine. It is a non-negotiable. So, it’s my responsibility to think of ways to make this experience more enticing, more appealing, more enjoyable for myself, to ensure I continue showing up to it daily.

This is where the act of romanticising the daily habit becomes incredibly powerful.

Previously, for Hump Day Hype Up I’ve shared the challenge of ‘using your top shelf products’ to make the day feel a bit more special. This week’s task is very similar.

Today, your Hump Day Hype Up challenge is to romanticise a daily activity you need to complete.

My recommendation is to do this with your skin care or your shower routine.
Turn your bathroom isn’t a day spa. Place some calming music on, light a candle, use your fluffiest towels, pour yourself a sparkling water in a wine glass, while you spend some time going through the motions of recognising the good you’re doing for yourself throughout this process.

If you don’t have a skin care routine, maybe you’re cooking yourself a meal and taking the consideration and preparation of a restaurant quality chef. Consider how you plate the food, can you make it feel fancier and more premium through different crockery or utensils. Can you play some music while you enjoy your meal, to really give yourself a luxury experience?

Is there something more mundane that you need to romanticise today? What about your commute to work? What insane playlist can you put together to bring the vibes up? What delicious drink can you prepare to enjoy while you’re on the commute?

When we create the time to make our regular daily activities as pleasurable as possible, we’re treating ourselves and intentionally activating our happy hormones as a form of self love. This is how you show yourself that you care. This is how you activate self trust and self love to build your confidence and your belief in yourself.

This week, more than ever, I would love for you to please share your experience with me.

I’m going to put together a little document of suggested ways you can romanticise your life, and I will share it with everyone once I have a collection of these amazing ideas. Even if it feels really simple, please share. It is so incredibly appreciated!

Sending love,
Jade xx
